Golfers Boerboom, Myhre earn trip to state

Everyone figured Nolan Boerboom had a good shot to make the state golf tournament. And frankly, Cole Myhre was an long shot at best.
And Boerboom did repeat his state trip from last year. But when the dust cleared, they both stood with medals around their neck and both will advance to the Class A State Tournament in Becker.
Boerboom finished fourth and Myhre, just a freshman, took ninth with a 182 to take a spot at the big show in Becker.
No stranger to the Class A Championships are Nolan Boerboom of Minneota and Canby’s Jake Wagner. Boerboom qualified for his third straight state tournament Thursday after carding a two-day total of 169 to finish fifth in Section 5A. Wagner’s two-day 181 was good for eighth in the section and sends him to his second state meet in as many years.
The Minneota boys, who qualified for the finals as a team on Wednesday, finished third overall. Lac qui Parle Valley. All five individuals who qualified for state are from area schools.
Aaron Loe of Lakeview finished second in Section 5A with a two-day score of 156 to advance to his first state tournament. Also qualifying for state for the first time is Sam Ohliger of Yellow Medicine East, who carded a fourth-place 166.

GIRLS SECTION 5A
After making its first state tournament in program history a season ago, the LQPV girls golf team didn’t waste any time before making a return trip to state. The Eagles qualified for the Class A Championships after compiling a team score of 720 at the Section 5A Championships.
Benson placed second as a team at 840, followed by Lakeview (888) and West Central Area (890).
Two area individuals will move on to state, as Dawson-Boyd sophomores Rachael Lund and Ella Mork will make their state tournament debuts. Mork finished fifth in Section 5A with a two-day score of 194, while Lund finished in seventh at 196.
Also advancing to state as individuals out of Section 5A are Jessica St. Martin of West Central Area, Mikayla Rasset of Ortonville (195) and Alissa Maurer of Benson (203).
The Class A Championships are June 11-12 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.

ON THE first day for the boys Wednesday, Minneota’s Nolan Boerboom led the way for the Vikings with an 88 while Cole Myhre had a 95, Joey Rybinski shot a 100 and Mitchell Rost shot a 103. Braxton Downing shot a 107 and Chase Differding had a 118 to round out their scores.
