Golf team drops scores significantly

Because of the nasty trick Mother Nature played on Minnesota sports this spring, the Camden Conference golfers have had to compress their season to get ready for the conference and sub-section meets.

“Due to previous postponements, the southern conference teams of Canby, Hendricks, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Lakeview, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Minneota play double header golf matches with one match starting at noon followed by the second match starting hopefully at 4:30 p.m.,” said Minneota Coach Greg Gile.

On Thursday, they started at Tyler, packed up everyone and everything and moved to Tracy. Monday the same teams were back on the course again at Cottonwood, hosted by Lakeview, then they packed it all up again and traveled to Minneota to finish off the days events.

The good news for Minneota is that Nolan Boerboom has been leading his team to a resurgence as significantly lower scores led the boys to wins at Tyler, Tracy and in Minneota.

Both Minneota boys and girls golf team were first in conference matches at Tyler and Tracy.

After the first match at Tyler, Minneota boys led by Nolan Boerboom (38) and Trent Esping (42), fired an impressive 170 to edge both Canby and Lakeview teams with team scores of 173. Other counting scores for the Vikings included Mitchell Rost and Tyler Myhre (45).

Other members of the team included Lucas Bot and Cole Myhre. Minneota girls fired their lowest scores of the season led by Brooklynn Downing (45), Laura Knutson (47) and Carolyn Hoffmann (49). Other counting scores included Jeren Rost (52).

Other members of the team included Allison Citterman and Lauren Bowyer.

Similar results followed at Tracy with Minneota shooting a 198 for first place honors. Brooklynn Downing led the team with her lowest score of the season a sizzling 41. Other individual scores included Jeren Rost 51, Carolyn Hoffmann 53, Allison Citterman 53, Lauren Bowyer 54 and Laura Knutson 55.

“The two nine-holes scores of 193, and 198 or 391 is a 31-stroke improvement over their first 18-hole score last week,” the coach added. On the boys side, Nolan Boerboom (42) and Trent Esping (43) led the team with both Tyler Myhre (44) and Mitchell Rost (44) in close pursuit. Other team scores included Lucas Bot (46) and Cole Myhre (50). The Vikings’ two-event score of 173 and 170 for 343 was and much better than their first 18-hole match at Lakeview where they scored a 368.
