Girls erase some of the disappointment

Everyone in Minneota came to see a Viking sweep over Lakeview in the doubleheader Friday night.

But after a disappointing one-point loss at the buzzer for the boys, the girls needed something special.

They won a hard-fought contest with a much taller Lakeview Lakers squad, 59-40.

In so doing, Abby Hennen pulled the somewhat sluggish Vikings up by the bootstraps, poured in 19 points with eight rebounds and led the way to a 4-0 record for the No. 1-ranked Vikings.

She got some nice help from Natalee Rolbiecki, who scored 12 and Morgan Hennen with another 12.

"In the first half we didn't run our offense," said Minneota Coach Chad Johnston. "We got into foul troubles, got out of rotation and we couldn't score," he said.

After leading 31-25 at the intermission, the Vikings jumped on the Abby hennen band wagon, got a good half from Rolbiecki and rolled to a win.

"In the second half we got some rythym in our offnse," said the coach.

Obviously, Lakeview had a couple of tall players, 6-1 Shelby by Gravley and 5-11 Kaitlynn Bot. But the Vikings got both into foul trouble early and they scored nine points between hem with eight rebounds.

"They tried to exploit us," Coach Johnston said about using the big gals in the middle.

"But we responded excellently," he said.

Lakeview scored just five points, including on field goal in the first nine minutes of the second half as they Vikings outscored them in that period, 18-5.
