Eagles fly past Vikings in sections

Minneota's miraculous attempt to get to the Section 3A finals was met by a dose of reality Saturday when the Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles took an 11-1, six-inning win from the Vikings.
Minneota finished the Section 3A Tournament with a 3-2 record and the Eagles will fly on to face Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg for the right to face Wabasso in the championship.
Wabasso beat KMS, 5-0 to remain the only unbeaten in the tournament.
KMS and LqPV will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will play Wabasso for the Section 3A title on Thursday, June 7. The first game is at 5 p.m. and the second game at 7 p.m. if needed.
Minneota got just two hits off Wyatt Halvorson, who went the distance and struck out six Vikings.
Alex Pohlen singled in the second inning and scored on a single by Jaymes Moon for the Vikings only hits and run.
Meanwhile, LqPV had the bats flying. In the seven-run fifth inning, Peyton Mortenson hit a grand slam home run to put a cap on the game. Mortenson was 2-4.
Braiden Kittelson went 3-5; Dain Haas 3-4 with a triple and run batted in: Caden Bjornjeld went 2-4 with an RBI; Isaac Gerdes went 2-4 and scored three runs and Halvors was 1-1 was hit by a pitched and walked twice.
Three pitchers hurled for Minneota. Brant Buysse started, followed by Teddy Pesch and Jacob Hennen.
