Dumont ousted from state baseball tourney

Dumont, the second place team from Section 9C, lost their opening game at the Minnesota Class C baseball tournament in Maple Lake last weekend, 1-0 to Bird Island.

A two-hitter by Bird Island’s Luke Kramer ended the Dumont Saints season. Nate Albrecht allowed just seven hits but took the loss for Dumont. Tyler Hebrink and Jack Peppel each had two hits for Bird Island.

The only run of the game came in the second inning. Section 9C’s champion, the Morris Eagles will play at 11 a.m., Sunday, August 25 at Delano against Watkins.

Minneota pitcher Danny Hennen was drafted to play with Morris but will miss the game because of a prior commitment.

Area teams in first round action included Luverne beating Carver, 4-3 and the Hadley Buttermakers losing to Cologne, 5-2.

This week area teams include Luverne vs. New Market at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, August 25 at Maple Lake.

Bird Island will face Jordan at 7 p.m., Saturday, August 24 at Delano. And Raymond will play Perham at 7 p.m., Sunday, August 25 in Maple Lake.
