Dreitz sixth, eighth at state track


Canby-Minneota eighth grader Grace Drietz finished sixth in the 1600-meter run (mile) Class A State Track Meet on Saturday.
She also finished in eighth place in the 800-meter race, earning two medals and places on the judges stand.
In the 1600-meter run, Drietz ran a 5:06.39, which was 16 seconds better than the time she used to get into the state meet.
Grace Ping of Cotter won the race in 4:57.86 with lauren Ping of Cotter in second at 4:58.25.
After qualifying for the 800-meter run on Friday, she ran a 2:19.68 in the finals to take eighth place.
Ava Hill of Mesabi East won the race in 2:13.13 with Taylor Kreitinger of Byron in second at 2:14.44.
The Blake School won the state tournament with 46 points. All of Canby-Minneota's points came from Drietz and they finished 48th with six points.
Drietz was the only Canby-Minneota trackster to qualify for the finals and to run on Saturday. Two boys' relay and a girls' relay lost in the preliminaries, as did Carter Wente on the hurdles and Norah King in the discus.
