Cole Hennen lost match to No. 2-ranked wrestler

The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (0-3, 0-2 NSIC) earned four bout victories despite falling 26-12 to DIII defending-national champions, Augsburg (2-0), in a non-conference dual last Saturday night.

The Mustangs faced the tough, and fully-loaded, Auggies who had four-ranked wrestlers in their line-up. Ryan Epps, who is ranked first in the nation at 165, earned a win by fall at 4:51 over Kevin Bostwick. No. 2-ranked Tanner Vassar (184), earned a 9-2 decision victory over Cole Hennen, No. 3-ranked Victor Gliva earned a 16-1 win by tech fall over Hunter Pfantz, and No. 10-ranked Aaron Wilson earned a win by fall at 1:45 over SMSU's leader in victories, Robert Shields.

SMSU earned four bout victories in the dual at 141, 157, 197, and rounded-out with a victory at 285.

Minneota’s Brock Buysse did not wrestle in this match.

All Mustangs earned decision victories with Justin Sampson (141) kicking it off with a 5-4 final over Adam Mickelson, Nathan Moore (157) earned a 6-1 final over Jack Vaselaar, Jackson Ryan (197) earned a 7-2 final over Jonathan Zarnke, and Andrew Petersen (285) closed out the night with a 5-3 final over Tyler Kim.

Southwest Minnesota State will return to action on Friday, Jan. 10, facing Northern State at 7 p.m. in the PE Gym.
