C/M competes in TCRC Showcase
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, fall sports was not able to have a state tournament.
So the Twin Cities Running Club took it upon themselves to invite the top cross country teams and individuals across the state to compete in the TCRC 2020 Cross Country Showcase on Oct. 30-31.
The invitations were based on team standing and individual times throughout the regular season and at sections. Large schools competed on Friday, Oct. 30 and the small schools competed on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Canby/Minneota girls team was invited, along with two members of the C/M boys team.
Patti Merritt organized and coached the C/M runners.
The Canby/Minneota girls team finished ninth out of 10 teams. Individually, Grace Drietz finished third in 19:17, Braelyn Merritt 34th in 21:17, McKenzie Ruether 39th in 21:28, Hannah Fadness 88th in 25:08, Natalie Stoks 89th in 25:30 and Jaelin Anderson 91st in 28:20. Claire Stoks was unable to run due to injury, and Lillie Wollum also did not run.
Blake Stoks came in 45th in the boys race with a time of 18:03. Kolton Duis finished 50th in 18:09.
"This was a great opportunity for the kids to round out their shortened season and have somewhat of a state meet," said Patti Merritt.
