C/M boys girls win True Team sub-section
The Canby/Minneota boys and girls track teams competed in the Sub-section 3A True Team meet last Thursday in Pipestone. Each team won their four-team sub-section and the results of the meet were entered to determine the Virtual True Team results.
The Redwood Valley boys and Southwest Minnesota Christian girls were declared the winners of the Section 3A virtual meet.
"Teams had this week to compete at various locations," Canby/Minneota coach Sara Hemish explained. "Then those who choose to compete in the meet enter the results and the meet is then scored. The Hard part of that is it wasn’t a head-to-head meet and conditions varied depending on the day and place of the competition. "It is very difficult to compete against teams when you aren’t all at the same location. You just hope you did enough to give yourself a chance.""
The Canby/Minneota teams will compete in the Camden Conference meet at 4 p.m. today (Thursday, May 27) at Lac qui Parle Valley High School where the girls will try to defend their title. The boys last won the conference crown in 2015. The pole vaulting competition was held on Wednesday, May 26 in Granite Falls.
The boys finished with 183 points among the four team competing, 29 points ahead of runner-up Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
AJ Josephson won the 400 dash and was the anchor on the winning 4 x 800 relay team with Kolton Duis, Zach Ourada and Blake Stoks.
Ty Stokls finished second in the shot put, discus and 100 dash. Ourada was also second in the 800 run, while Duis was second in the 3200 run, and Joey Hiedeman was second in the 110 hurdles.
The Canby/Minneota dominated their portion of the meet, amassing 285.5 points to 159 for second place Pipestone.
The C/M won nine of the 18 events. Grace Drietz won the 600 and 1,600 runs, while also anchoring the winning 4 x 400 relay team. Ryan Hansen won the 200 dash, triple jump and was on the winning 4 x 800 relay team.
Mackenzie Janiszeski won both the discus and long jump, Claire Stoks came in first in the 3,200.
The 4 x 100 relay team that place first consisted of Elysa Wollum, Karlie Wollum, Natalie Stoks and Hannah Jelen. The 4 x 400 team that won was comprised of Braelyn Merritt, Elysa Wollum, Hansen and Drietz. The winning 4 x 800 team included McKenzie Ruter, Brooklyn Kindopp, Claire Stoks and Merritt.
