Minneota junior Max Rost was among 28 golfers advancing to the second round of the Section 3A golf tournament Wednesday after shooting a 92 last Wednesday in Worthington.
The second round will also be played in Worthington.
Carson Boe of Lakeview had the best score of the first round at Great Life Golf and Fitness in Worthington, firing a 73, which was two shots better than runner-up Nathan Kueny of Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove. Brock Hennng of Adrian/Ellsworth was third with a 78.
Lakeview won the first round wth a 327. Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove was second with 336, Adrian/Ellsworth was third with a 345, and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton was fourth with 357.
The top four teams and individuals shooting 96 or better advance to Wednesday's second round back in Worthington.
The top team, plus the top five individuals not on the winning team advance to the Class A state tournament.
Minneota finished ninth among the 10 teams.
"Max hit some good shots and played well," said Minneota coach Walker Hennen.
Rost realizes that he has a steep hill to climb in order to qualify for state, but wants to finish the season strong.
"My goal is to shoot 85," he said. "That would be my best round of the season. My previous best was an 89 at Marshall."
Anthony Rybinski, a senior who led Minneota in all but one meet this season, shot a 101 and did not qualify for the second round. Lucas Rybinski, Brayden Kollman and Jase Sorensen were the other members of the Minneota team.
