Boys fall; girls consolation champs in Pacesetter Sweet 16 tournament

The Minneota boys’ basketball team finished with a 2-2 record the Pacesetter Sweet 16 Championships on Aug. 4-5 at College of St. Benedict.

The Minneota girls fared a little better, winning the consolation championship.

In the boys’ tournament, Minneota lost to Minneapolis North 81-58, lost to Waseca 88-70 and beat Dawson-Boyd, 52-37 and Spring Grove.

In this annual event, Pacesetter invites leading teams from Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A for a single-class summer showcase.

Pacesetter, based in Paynesville, conducts basketball and volleyball camps in five states, along with basketball tournaments in five states.

In the girls’ tournament, the Minneota girls won the consolation championship.

They lost to New Ulm, 50-48, beat Holy Family Catholic, 50-38 and defeated Willmar, 59-52.
