Bowyer signs to play golf for UM-Crookston

Minneota senior Lauren Bowyer, who finished 18th in the Class A state tournament last spring, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
"I'm very excited to have Lauren join our golf program," said UM-Crookston coach Bryant Friskop. "Lauren is someone that will make a positive impact on this team with her hard work and dedication to the game and getting better."
Friskop feels Bowyer has the potential to make it into the team's top five for most events.
"I fully expect her to play a huge role in getting this program where we want to go," he said. "Lauren will be a great addition to this program and this university."
Bowyer had some other offers from colleges that were impressed with her game.
"What set the University of Minnesota-Crookston apart from the other colleges was that Coach Friskop really took the time to do his research about me," Bowyer said. "That really meant a lot to me as an athlete. I feel super honored to be given this opportunity to play for the Golden Eagles."
The Golden Eagles had a strong fall season, shooting their lowest round since 2016 with a 350 on Sept. 26, 2021. Abby Stender, a senior from Madison, is currently a member of the team.
Bowyer, who is a two-time all-conference selection, shot 186 at the 2021 state tournament after winning the Section 3A individual title. She was named the Most Valuable Player for the Vikings girls' golf team this past spring.
"I'm going to be doing some really great traveling and playing some fantastic courses with my new team," she said. "Finally, I am just really grateful for having this opportunity to continue my golf career."
Bowyer, a Minneota honor student, is the daughter of John and Penny Bowyer. She plans to major in Health Sciences at UM-Crookston.
