Boerboom scores 1000th point as Vikings defeat Adrian-Ellsworth 65-62
Minneota senior Nolan Boerboom scored the 1,000th point of his career Monday night as Minneota held off a late Adrian rally and prevailed 65-62.
The milestone was reached before a Parents’ Night crowd. Boerboom, who began the night with 995 career points, hit the milestone late in the first half on a free throw that spun around the rim twice before descending through the cords.
The game was halted and Boerboom was presented with the game ball. Boerboom finished with 14 points and six assists.
Jacob Citterman led the Vikings with 21 points, hitting 9 of 12 shots. Logan Sussner notched 11 points and 16 rebounds. Alex Saltzer had six points and six assists for the Vikings.
Cale Sorensen also had six points and Riley Buysse added five. Minneota took a 32-22 lead into the locker room at halftime and built that into a 17-point bulge at 47-30 before Adrian, behind Ian Stamer’s game-high 31 points, went on a 30-11 run to close within 60-58 late in the game, but would get no closer. Stamer made 12 of 25 shots, including four 3-pointers.
Peyton Lewis added 10 points for Adrian.
