Nolan Boerboom pulled up for a shot at the basket against Canby's Joey Hiedemann.

Boerboom comes alive in big Canby win

The first five games have been frustrating for Nolan Boerboom.

The senior came into the season as one of the veterans expected to lead the Vikings. But it hadn’t happened for him.
Tuesday night Boerboom poured in 19 points and came away with a much better feeling.
“We’re rollin’ now,” he said after the Vikings 82-32 landslide over winless Canby for the Vikings second straight win and a climb to .500 on the year at 3-3.
“Nolan opened things up for us,” said Coach Dave Busselman. He finds that area on the floor. Nobody understands better where he has to be than he does,” said the coach.
“It’s nice to see Nolan score more,” the coach related.
Boerboom was finding that spot Tuesday night and it paid off big.
His counter-part, Logan Sussner, who has been on an incredible roll, still had a great night with 23 points and 13 rebounds. But it almost seemed like a down night after the incredible scoring and rebounding machine he’s been since the start of the year.
“Everyone is still finding their roles. They’re starting to figure it out,” said the coach.
He pointed to the defensive effort turned in by Joey Rybinski and the offensive surge displayed by Riley Buysse, who hit a couple of three-pointers and scored nine points. “I thought they both played well tonight,” said the coach.
Braeden Panka is another defending coming off the bench to add speed and defensive pressure to the Viking defense.
“Were starting to move the ball better. And the defense is picking up the pace,” said the coach.
Also getting in on the fun were Alex Saltzer with 10 points and Jacob Citterman with nine.
“It’s starting to feel like we’re getting to what we want to accomplish,” said the coach.
This was a game in which Canby didn’t have enough tools to compete and the Vikings simply took an early 4-4 game, pumped it up to 21-8 after a pair of three-pointers by Buysse and another by Citterman and were coasting 31-12 when Boerboom hit a three.
But something special was happening on the Minneota side. The bench was responding by jumping to their feet and cheering wildly as they watched Boerboom come to life. When that bench got into the game, they too had a good time. Grady Moorse, Rybinski, Cael Sorensen, Panka, Kaleb and Kobly Regnier all got buckets and Rybinski came away with four rebounds.
It may have been an easy win, but it left Boerboom feeling as though he and his Vikings were on the right track, at last.
“We’ve got it rolling now,” he repeated.
