Weatherman woes

Here we go again! The weatherman is making a mess of the winter sports season. But as hard as he tries, well, he hasn’t been able to stop some very good teams from Minneota. Let’s look at the three Minneota teams.

Boys’ Basketball

The Class A No. 1-ranked team all season is 17-0 going into Thursday’s game at MACCRAY. Monday’s game with Ortonville was washed out by the bad weather — and too bad, too, because the Trojans are ranked and are good competition. It’s not likely this game will be rescheduled. The Vikings don’t play again until Tuesday, February 5 at home against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Girls’ Basketball

Also ranked No. 1 in state all year, the 16-0 Vikings have had more changes in their schedule due to bad weather than Planter’s has peanuts. This week they lost Monday’s game with Ortonville and Tuesday’s game at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton due to inclement weather. “The game with Tracy-Milroy-Balaton will have to be made up,” said Activities Director Jason Myhre. A busy schedule for sure .... The team plays Friday, February 1 at home against Yellow Medicine East. On Monday, February 4 they play the makeup game at Tracy. On Tuesday, February 5 they will play a makeup game from the SMSU holiday tournament at Brandon Valley, near Sioux Falls. As a result, the non-conference game at Springfield has been cancelled. On Tuesday, February 8 they are at Southwest Minnesota Christian in Edgerton. Because of all the changes, the games are starting to pile up.

Wrestling

The Vikings, now 9-7 in dual meets, lost a home match last Thursday when Windom didn’t have school due to bad weather and couldn’t come to Minneota. Instead, Windom will be included in Minneota’s second and final home match of the year on Thursday. Here’s Thursday’s schedule: 5 p.m. (Windom vs Fulda), (Minneota vs Redwood); Round 2: (Minneota vs Windom) and (Redwood vs Fulda); Round 3: (Minneota vs Fulda). JV matches will be wrestled before or after each dual. They wrestle again on Saturday, Feb. 2 in a tournament at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
