Mudhens fall to Marshall
The Marshall A’s flexed their muscles and rapped out 17 hits to hold off Minneota 11-9 in a non-league game last Wednesday (May 24) in Marshall.
“Marshall is a stacked team one through nine and we had a huge lead on them early, but they slowly came back,” said Mudhens player/manager Tyson Sonnenburg. “Both pitchers we saw pitched very well and threw fairly hard, mixing pitched well, too.”
The Mudhens (2-4) scored all nine of their runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead. In that inning, the Mudhens sent 13 men to the plate while parlaying eight hits, one walk and an error into the barrage of runs.
“We had that impressive third inning but couldn’t get much going after that, Sonnenburg said. “It was a good non-league game for us to play as they are right down the road. It also helped fill a huge gap in our schedule, so that was nice.”
Jacob Hennen started for the Mudhens and pitched 7 1/3 strong innings against a solid lineup. He walked two and struck out seven, Only six of the runs scored off him were earned. AJ Myhre recorded the final two outs in relief.
Eight different Mudhens had one hit apiece; Brock Buysse, Alex Pohlen, Austin Buysse, Sonnenburg, Danny Hennen, Myhre, Ben Skorczewski and Tate Walerius.
