Shooting sports have become popular in Minnesota. In fact, they’ve become the No. 1 fastest-growing sport of all.
Now in their third full season, the Minneota Clay Target Shooting team is looking to improve on its impressive showing in last year's state championship.
At latest count, 11,936 student participants from 349 high school teams are participating in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League's (MNSHSCTL) 2018 spring season, which began April 1.
Even though the most recent school shooting occurred hundreds of miles away, the news hit school administrators, teachers, students and parents like a ton of bricks in Minneota.
There are 7,459 student athletes scheduled to participate in the 2017 Trap Shooting Championship, June 12-20 at the Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria.
Travis Engels continued his torrid trap shoot pace by hitting 25 of 25 targets in the first round and 23 of 25 the second time around to again pace the Minneota Trap Shooting team.
Along with 11,040 student participants from 343 high school teams, the Minneota Clay Target Team opened it’s season last week and Travis Engels was the team’s stop shooter.
