Robert Bauer

1934-2023

On Aug. 9, 2023, Robert “Bob” Lawrence Bauer, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 89.
Bob was born on June 19, 1934 to Joseph and Emma Bauer at St. Mary’s Hospital in New Ulm, MN. Bob graduated from Minneota High School in 1952. On Oct. 17, 1953, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Ann Sanders, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Roseburg, Oregon. They moved to California in 1956 where Bob worked as a machinist for Fairchild Semiconductor and Dimac Machining. They moved to Boise, Idaho in October, 1987 where Bob worked for Northwest Machine. He retired in 1997.
Bob was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boise where he participated in the music ministry for 31 years. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1954 to present. He was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in San Jose, CA in 1977 and 1978. Bob was honored as the Distinguished Knight through the Knights of Columbus on July 8, 2022. Bob is the first Knight to receive this award and the award is named after him.
Bob’s Catholic faith and love of God was an important part of his life. God’s light shown through him. Bob had a kind word for everyone. His actions toward others showed how much he cared about them. He was the best gentleman.
Bob and Jeanette enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family. Bob also enjoyed working in his garden and helping Jeanette with making salsa from the fruits of his labors, which they shared with friends and family. Bob and Jeanette belonged to the Father Dodgson Pinochle Club. Bob loved watching football, especially Boise State, Notre Dame, San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings.
Bob is survived by his children: Linda (Mark) Tholen, Karen Behne, John (Linda) Bauer, Sheila (Chris) Harris, Darlene Britton, Julie (Scott) Wilhelmi, Tom (Katie) Bauer as well as 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren with number 13 due to arrive January 2024.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; his parents, Joseph and Emma Bauer; his brothers Joseph and Frank, and his sisters Hildegard, Lucille and Jane.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Aug. 21, 2023 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boise. There was a viewing and rosary prior to the funeral service. A reception followed Mass.
