Randy Lee Kockelman was born March 6, 1959 in Dawson, MN the son of Leo and Anita (Abraham) Kockelman. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. James Catholic Church in Dawson. Randy was so fortunate to have such caring and loving parents who taught him many things, one of which was how to pray. Randy took his faith very seriously and he loved the Lord. They also made sure he got the best education available to him at that time and he attended school in Canby, Dawson, and Montevideo. Randy worked at C.J. Mike’s in Dawson, the DAC in Madison and later at Second Time Around in Montevideo and Dawson. He especially loved his job at the thrift store where he could work alongside his many friends. He loved country music, especially Johnny Cash and he spent many hours playing his guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed singing and recording music, drawing and tracing pictures, playing cards, doing Circle-A-Word books, going to Bingo, playing Mexican Train with his friends, and looking up information regarding the NASA Space program. He participated in swimming in the Special Olympics and was a Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winner. His hobbies included bowling, golfing and shopping for the latest in sports wear. Randy had a love for all sports. He was an avid Dawson - Boyd Blackjacks fan and he attended as many basketball and football games as he could, always with his clip board and pencil to record the scores of the games. He also followed all MN professional sports teams. He would check the newspaper daily and record the scores. Randy enjoyed several trips to Minneapolis for Twins and Lynx games with his friend Todd and best friend Kris.
Randy had a wonderful sense of humor. He was always a happy guy. If you met him, you were his friend forever. He loved to talk to people and always had a smile for everyone. He loved life and was able to do the things he enjoyed for most of his life. He cherished his many friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his mother, Anita of Dawson; a sister, Phyllis (Norm) Peterson of Dawson; a brother, Dennis (Cheryl) Kockelman of Monticello; and a nephew, Chad (Amber) Kockelman of Corcoran and their children: Cooper and Camden.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo in 2008; and his grandparents: Leo and Lena Abraham and Phillip and Mary Kockelman.
As his family, we were so privileged to have had this kind, gentle, loving and beautiful soul as a part of our lives. He brought his family so much joy and was a precious gift to our family. Life will go on without him but it will never be the same. We are thankful for the time that Randy was with us. We will always love him and miss him.
