Norma Marilyn Serumgard, 89, of Golden Valley, and longtime resident of Robbinsdale, passed away Oct. 24, 2022. Norma is now in the presence of Jesus and reunited with many friends and loved ones who preceded her.
Norma was born to Nikolai and Mabel Enga, the sixth of nine children. She was raised on a picturesque farm that straddled a tributary of the Yellow Medicine River, nestled in the rich, rolling hills near Minneota, MN. Over the years she shared many stories of her adventures and challenges of growing up in this beautiful and supportive farming community.
Norma survived five episodes of cancer with grace, showing a positive outlook and indominable spirit through her health challenges and recoveries. She was always grateful for the care and support she received from friends, family and medical staff. She looked forward to each new day and couldn’t wait to share what she experienced with her family, neighbors, and friends.
Norma was a consummate hostess, welcoming family and friends, and offering conversation as well as a wonderful treat or meal. Every holiday was her favorite and she couldn’t wait to celebrate with her friends and loved ones. Fiercely proud of her Norwegian heritage, she passed down that knowledge, tradition and appreciation to her children and grandchildren. Norma had a strong faith in Christ and was certain that she would be joining her loved ones in eternity.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Harold; her beloved children, George (Janice) Serumgard of Golden Valley, MN; and JoAnn (Richard) Hirth of Chelsea, Michigan: her dear grandchildren, Andrew (Kennedy) Serumgard, Lauren Hirth (fiancé Sam Donahue) and Caroline Hirth: sister Joan Mosher: and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 12th and Nicollet in Minneapolis. Viewing at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.
