Mary Fier

Mary Alice Fier, 97, of Taunton, died on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, surrounded by family at the Canby Sylvan Court in Canby.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16 at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8 p.m. followed by a Rosary at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota.

Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the St. Leo School, adjacent to St. Leo Church.

Interment will take place at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.

Mary Alice (VanDamme) Fier was born on January 23, 1921, to August and Augusta (Crombeke) VanDamme.

She attended District 90 Country School and graduated in the 8th grade with ceremonies in Canby.

In 1958, she was united in marriage to Leo Fier at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent.

The couple made their home and raised their daughter, Judy, on the Fier family farm in Alta Vista Township in Lincoln County. Mary enjoyed life on the farm.

She enjoyed mowing her lawn, tending to her gardens and feeding the cows.

Many times she would work side by side with her sister-in-law Josie Fier while their husbands were doing local custom farm work.

She was a longtime active member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton and had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Currently, she was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and honorary social member of the CCW. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Judy (and Richard) Pesek of Taunton; grandson Mark (and Allyson) Pesek of Porter, granddaughter Jill (and Steven) Resler of Owatonna; great-grandchildren Mya and Mak Pesek, Ava and Addison Resler; sister Annie Mathiowetz of Minneota, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Elsie Kopitski and brother Albert VanDamme.
