Jon Opdahl

Jon Opdahl, 55, of Minneota, died on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his residence in Minneota. Mass of Christian Burial for Jon will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 – 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.

Jon Patrick Opdahl was born on March 31, 1962, in Marshall, to Harold and Magdalene (Kloos) Opdahl. He grew up in Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School in 1980. He then attended Ridgewater Community College for Business Management.

Jon farmed with his dad from 1983 – 1996. Together, they farmed corn, beans, and wheat and their livestock included pigs, sheep, cows and more.  

He then attended Minnesota West Community and Technical College for Soil and Water Conservation Technology.

He worked for Soil and Water Conservation Service and various other jobs. Jon was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, among other activities.

He was always caring with profound common sense and values; he demonstrated this by constantly helping others, whether mowing a neighbor’s lawn or helping one of his kids fix their car.

He was also an excellent cook. Jon was most passionate about his family.

He is survived by his children Sam Opdahl of Minneapolis, Emily (and Logan) Frank of Sioux Falls, SD and Jacob Opdahl of Boise, ID; mother Magdalene Opdahl of Minneota; siblings Jay (and Jackie) Opdahl of Minneota, Judy (and Greg) Novotny of Winona, Jim (and Andrea) Opdahl of Minneota, Joe (and Deb) Opdahl of Visalia, CA, Rob Opdahl of Prescott, WI, Ann (and Rod) Abraham of Minneota and Kathy Swanson of Richmond, MN; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Harold and sister-in-law Licole.
