John Reedy
John Daniel Reedy, age 78, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, surrounded by his family.
John was born in Mankato, MN to John and Winnifred (Timmons) Reedy on Sept. 27, 1945. John attended Loyola High School in Mankato where he played football and basketball. He was involved in theater productions and was a member of the debate team. He graduated in 1963.
John married Jacqueline (Jackie) Buysse in Minneota on Sept. 13, 1969. She is the daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn Buysse. Throughout their 54-year marriage, John and Jackie embarked on countless adventures together. Their favorite trips often centered around family and friends.
John started his career with Alexander Grant & Co. as a Staff Accountant upon graduating from Mankato State University in Dec. 1970 with a degree in accounting. He obtained his CPA certification in Sept. 1973. John’s career continued to flourish as he progressed to become an Audit Partner at Grant Thornton LLP. In 1988, he joined Michael Foods Inc., where he held various key positions, including Chief Financial Officer, Vice President - Finance, and later Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. Throughout his 22-year tenure, John’s financial leadership and strategic expertise significantly contributed to the success of Michael Foods, Inc. He retired from the company in 2010.
In retirement, John embraced a variety of hobbies and passions. Golfing, traveling, fishing, and playing cards brought him immense joy. His role as a grandparent, fondly known as “Papa,” held a special place in his heart. Watching his grandchildren excel in their favorite sports was a cherished pastime. For the past 18 years, John split his time between Florida, where he enjoyed winters in Naples, and Minnesota, where he spent his summers at the family lake home on Gull Lake near Brainerd. His dedication extended beyond leisure, as he served as Treasurer and President of the HOA Board at his Naples condo and contributed his leadership to the Wilds Villa HOA Board in Prior Lake, MN, for several years.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; their children, John (Jill) Reedy and Jennifer Gatti; and 5 grandchildren: Sean, John “Jack”, Alexander, Andrew, and Lauren. His surviving siblings are Kathleen James, Michael Reedy, and Maureen (Steve) Scholl. In-laws include David Allen, Gary and Mary Buysse, Dennis and Jane Esser, Nancy Buysse, Chuck and Janet Samuelson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, his sister Patricia Allen, brother-in-law Richard James, and sister-in-law Lynn (Liska) Reedy.
Funeral service will be held at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin an hour before at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the service.
