Jay Christianson

Jay Christianson, age 62, of Canby, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby.

Burial will be at the Canby City Cemetery in Canby.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, July 26, at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel, in Canby.

Jay Todd Christianson was born on December 7, 1954 to Russell and Lucille (Strand) Christianson in Norfolk, Virginia.

When he was young, his family moved to Canby where he graduated high school in 1973. In 1972, he earned the football title of the WCCO All-State Defensive End. Jay joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Texas and served in Germany.

In his younger days, he played softball for Red Owl and the Wooden Nickel teams. He was a very proud sports fan especially enjoying softball, basketball and football and also coached high school football.

He was a diehard Minnesota Gophers and Duke University Blue Devils fan. Jay loved following his grandchildren’s sports activities and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and he was a Mason and Shriner. He was a dispatcher for Cliff Viessman Trucking for 10 years and never missed a day of work.

Grateful for having shared Jay’s life is a special friend, Darcie Adkison; his children: Moriah (Chad) Reiss, Taunton, Jaci (Jason) Weber, Canby, Emily (Matt) Coequyt, Minneota, Travis (Jada) Christianson, Canby, Nicholas Adkison, Canby and Trent Adkison, Canby; two brothers, Jeff (Brenda) Christianson, Sioux Falls, SD and Jerry (Bonnie) Christianson, Canby; 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Brendan and Blake Reiss, Austin (Autum) Campbell, Cammie, Evan and Karli Weber, Bretten, Jaylyn and Nolan Coequyt and Jay Christianson; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was in preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
