Jamie Coquyt

Jamie Daniel Coquyt, 44 of Ely, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services for Jamie will be held at Noon, Saturday August 18, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, MN. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Following the service there will be a time of fellowship, lunch, and sharing of memories held at the KC Hall in Fairmont.

Jamie Daniel Coquyt was born on November 14, 1973 in Canby to Dan and Pam (Pesch) Coquyt.

Jamie was a 1992 graduate from Fairmont Senior High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in history from Buena Vista University in 1996.

He later earned his master’s degree from Viterbo University. On December 7, 1996, Jamie was united in marriage to Missy (Klusmeier) in Fairmont, MN.

They are blessed with two amazing children Kaylee and Noah. Jamie began his teaching career in 1996 at Ballard Community Schools in Huxley, IA as a high school history teacher.

His passion for education and coaching grew every year along with his dedication to his students. He served as the assistant high school principal from 2003-2008 and then as principal of Ballard East Elementary from 2008-2013.

In 2013, he became the Director of Human Resources for College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Jamie was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and educator. He touched so many lives in his short time on earth and will be missed greatly by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them on family vacations.

He especially enjoyed the family trips to northern Minnesota with cool weather and creating memories.

Jamie will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend Missy, children Kaylee and Noah; parents Dan and Pam Coquyt; sister Jody (Dustin) Benes, brother Jeff (Tina) Coquyt; father-in-law Bill Klusmeier; brother-in-law Matt (Melissa) Klusmeier; nieces and nephews Dylan and Caleb Benes, Charlotte Coquyt, Peyton, Parker and Garrett Klusmeier and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ray and Marie Coquyt, Lyle and Margie Pesch and mother-in-law Diane Klusmeier.
