Barry Ufkin

Barry Ufkin, age 70, of Canby MN passed away comfortably at his home in the presence of his family after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 10, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Canby.

Burial will be at the St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Canby.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel, Canby.

Barry Craig Ufkin, was born on April 20, 1947 in Canby to Willis and Beatrice (Thomsen) Ufkin.

He graduated from Canby High School in 1965 and attended Canby Vocational Technical School. While attending high school and technical school, Barry played multiple instruments and sang vocals in several bands.

In 1971, Barry married Darlene Evjen. Together they raised three children. During their life together they farmed near Porter.

After 13 years of marriage, they remained close friends while continuing to raise their children.

Barry had many hobbies. Among his most favorite were checking crops, morning coffee with friends, cruising in his truck, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends.

Out of everything Barry did and loved, farming was his passion.

Barry is survived by his former wife Darlene Ufkin, Canby, MN; three children: Stephen (Kirsten) Ufkin of Porter, MN, Dana (Chris) Loos of Glenwood City, WI, Nathan (Jennifer) Ufkin of Canby, MN; seven grandchildren: Peyton (Keagan) DeSmet, Andrew Ufkin, Alex Ufkin, Xavier Martin, Jalyn Ufkin, Camryn Ufkin and Tristen Ufkin; sister Patrice (Patrick) McLuen and sister-in-law Linda Ufkin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Beatrice, brother Lon, and grandchild Isaac.
