Arlon Johnson
Arlon G. Johnson, age 82, of Canby, Minnesota passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.
A Memorial Service for Arlon will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Hope Lutheran Church, Minneota, MN.
Inurnment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Minneota.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service on Friday, August 17 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby.
Arlon Garfield Johnson was born on February 25, 1936 to Bjorn Garfield and Beatrice (Bjerkestrand) Johnson in Nordland Township, near Minneota, Minnesota.
He was the third child of eleven and proud to be one of the nine “Johnson boys.”
He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. Arlon was raised and received his education in Minneota.
Following his education, he helped his parents on the home farm. In 1961, Arlon moved to California. On November 2, 1963 Arlon married Helen Martin in Tracy, CA and Arlon’s son Bob came to live with them.
Their union was blessed with three children and almost 55 years of marriage. The family moved back to Canby and Arlon started farming with his brother Dennis.
They also owned and operated Johnson Brothers & Stein Trucking. They later moved back to California where Arlon started Arlon Johnson Woodwork in Brentwood, CA.
After Arlon and Helen retired, they moved to Lake Cochrane and recently to Canby.
They also enjoyed their second home in Mission, Texas during the winters. On August 12, 2018 Arlon was admitted to Sanford Hospital where he passed away.
Arlon enjoyed farming, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. Arlon and Helen enjoyed traveling and sightseeing.
While spending time in Texas, Arlon and Helen enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family. Arlon enjoyed spending his time with his children and grandchildren.
He loved to joke and tease them every chance he could get. He was very proud of his grandchildren and would spend time attending their events.
Arlon is lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen of Canby; children, Deb (Rick) VanDerostyne of Canby, Francis (Connie) Johnson of Brentwood, CA, and David (Robin) Johnson of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Makayla VanDerostyne (fiancé, Luke Bretschneider), Taylor and Emma Johnson, Kolby and Olivia Johnson, and Bradley Johnson (son of Bob Johnson); siblings: Dorance Johnson of Wellington, CO, Francis Johnson of Minneota and Merrill Johnson of Minneota; brother-in-law, Lowell Nelson of Lake Benton, MN; sisters-in-law, Norma Johnson of Porter, Sue and Nancy Johnson both of Minneota and Ellen Johnson of Lathrop, CA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, B. Garfield and Beatrice; son, Bob; sisters, Mavis Jensen and Jeanette Nelson; brothers, Dennis, Willis (Billy), Marion (Joe), Allen, and B. James (Jimmy) Johnson; sister-in-law, Jackie Johnson; brother-in-law Leon Jensen and nephew, Michael Johnson.
