Taunton's float was big hit in Fire Fighters' parade
If prizes had been awarded for floats in the West Central Fire Fighters' parade on Sunday, the unit entered by the Taunton Fire Department would undoubtedly have taken top honors. Taunton's fire fighters had decorated a hay rack drawn by a jeep, which was also decorated. The masked firemen who rode on the hay rack frequently had to extinguish "blazes" in the jeep while the parade was in progress and their antics in putting out fires were a big hit with the young and old alike. Armed with small fly spray cans and clad in slickers and firemen's helmets, the Taunton men had a lot of trouble trying to subdue the fake fire, but did so only after heroic action.

Because of the rain, a portion of the exercises were held inside the old church building after the regular morning services, at which time the deacons of the church read from the scriptures as a part of the ceremonies.
