Weight Loss Surgery now available in Marshall

Avera Marshall is beginning a bariatric surgery program to offer a new local treatment option to help patients achieve a healthy weight.

Dr. Maggie Steinbeisser, Avera Medical Group General Surgery, is trained and experienced in performing a weight-loss surgery called laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This procedure involves significantly reducing the size of the stomach and shaping the remaining stomach into a tube or “sleeve.”

“Obesity is becoming an increasing concern in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one third of adults in the U.S. are obese, putting them at increased risk for serious health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke and certain types of cancer,” said Dr. Steinbeisser.

“A sleeve gastrectomy procedure decreases hunger without altering absorption of vitamins and minerals.”
