Vietnam series on PBS; Advance screening Tuesday

Pioneer Public Television has collected and recorded stories from area Vietnam War veterans for a local documentary to be shown in advance of the national release of THE VIETNAM WAR by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick.
These interviews will air at 6:30 p.m.,  on Sunday, Sept. 17. ​
Vietnam Remembered: Interviews with Western and Southwestern Minnesota Veterans features stories from several local Vietnam War veterans as part of the statewide Vietnam Story Wall project.
It’s  a year-long effort to inspire Minnesotans to share and remember their Vietnam War experiences.
Pioneeer’s production Director Timothy Hale Bakken, conducted the interviews for the documentary.
Interviewees include: Dale Johansen of Underwood, Max Prinzing of Redwood Falls, Byron Higgin of Minneota, Wesley Smith of Madison, Jerry Eykyn of Worthington, Luverne Kortgaard of Willmar, Gerald Goetch and Jerome Parker —both of Ortonville.

THE VIETNAM WAR is a 10-part, 18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick set to premiere nationwide on PBS at 7 p.m., Sept. 17.
The first five episodes will air nightly from Sunday, Sept. 17 through Thursday, Sept. 21, and the final five episodes will air nightly from Sunday, Sept. 24 through Thursday, Sept. 28.
THE VIETNAM WAR will feature testimony from nearly 100 witnesses, including Americans who fought in the war, others who opposed it and Vietnamese combatants and civilians from many different perspectives.
There will be repeat broadcasts of the local documentary on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m; Saturday, Sept. 23 at noon; Sunday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.; Monday, Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m and Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m.
Locally the station can be viewed over the air on KWCM Channel 10 in Appleton.

ADVANCE SCREENING

Advance screenings of THE VIETNAM WAR documentary from PBS will be shown in Willmar at the Kandiyohi Government Center on August 24, at the Milbank High School on September 7 and at the SMSU Conference Center in Marshall on September 12. All of the screenings will be held between 5:30 and 9 p.m. and will feature small group discussions after the screenings. Refreshments will be served and the events are free and open to the public.
