Two more local events cancelled

COVID-19 shuts down Trunk-or-Treat, North Pole Extravaganza

And then there were two .... less.
Two more popular upcoming events have had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to make this one of the most trying years on record.
The Trunk-or-Treat event put on by St. Edward School, which quickly gained strength each of the previous three years it has been held. Last year's event was so popular that 20 vehicles and over 200 children attended.
"Due to COVID-19 and looking out for the community's safety, we will not be hosting Trunk-or-Treat this year," said Nikki Traen, one of the event's organizers. "It was a very hard decision to make as we know it is a fun event for the whole community. We hope to be back next year in 2021."
The other event that has been cancelled was the successful North Pole Extravaganza, which drew patrons from several area communities. That was scheduled to be held on Saturday, Nov. 7.
However, the One More Time Thrift Store in Minneota still plans to hold its silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the VFW building on Jefferson Street. Last year's silent auction was a big success and the thrift store noted that they have many items that will included this year, such as a 55-inch television, kitchen table and chair sets, bookcases and much more.
The North Pole Extravaganza included several vendors, a meal, silent auction, Santa Clause arriving on a fire truck, and photos with Santa.
Some of the local businesses may still offer discounts or prizes on that scheduled date.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation the majority of events in and around the Minneota area, as well as across the nation. Minneota's Boxelder Bug Days, Belgian-American Days in Ghent and Porter's Harvest Festival were cancelled or scaled back to a much smaller version.
One event that will be held City Hall Bar & Grill's Harvest Festival in Minneota with events for the whole family beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
