School installing new livestream system

•Subscribers can view many home sporting events

Not everyone that's a fan of Minneota sports is able to attend all games and matches they would like to. Some fans are unable to attend because of inclement weather, they live too far away, they have an illness, or some other reason. In early February, however, fans can subscribe to watch all varsity, junior varsity and C-squad home sporting events, and even some away events, live via NFHS Network that the school has partnered with. Subscription options are monthly ($9.99) or yearly ($69.99). Part of your subscription is donated to Minneota Schools. The broadcasts will be available on a phone, tablet, computer or smart TV. "With the new system, we will also be able to broadcast the lower-level events," said Activities Director Cari Pohlen. "Starting next year we also hope to include junior high games, which will be new."

Current broadcasts of sporting events on YouTube make it difficult for viewers to see what the running score is. Through NFHS broadcasts, the scoreboard will remain on the screen at all times; similar to a college or professional sporting event on television.

"There will be audio, too," said Pohlen. "Just like our current camera, there is an internal microphone that will pick up sound. We will also have the ability to 'plug in' to local radio stations when they are here, so the play-by-play action broadcasted over the radio will also be heard with the video."

As part of the partnership with the NFHS Network, they will return a part of each subscription sold back to Minneota Public Schools. The new system is expected to pay for itself in two years, while eventually saving the school district money.

Several other school districts are already utilizing the NFHS system or are preparing to switch to this system, so subscription holders will be able to watch Minneota Vikings road events, too.

The other schools utilizing the system currently or expected to in the future are: Canby, Dawson-Boyd, Edgerton, Luverne, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Tracy-Milroy-Balton, Windom Area and Worthington.
