School construction underway

“We have had a lot of stress with the moving in and out of rooms (for construction purposes),” said Superintendent Dan Deitte. In order to get a quick start on the elementary school remodeling project, some classrooms have been moved and teachers have been making changes in their teaching areas.

“They (construction personnel) are doing a lot of things at night that are noisy,” said Deitte. “We’ve had to expand a little with the asbestos removal, so that’s been added on,” said the superintendent.

Lights are also being installed outside to improve the visibility in the area of the school. Construction will continue through the summer and phase two, the locker room areas will be done next summer. It’s all part of a $5.25 million project.

Parents surveyed

“I’ve seen a big uplift in parents in the school, mostly due to field trips and events held in the elementary school,” said Elementary Principal Jennifer Mahan-Deitte. She showed the board a survey taken with parents of school district children and most of the questions got over-whelming positive input for the parents.

They were asked about the facilities, teachers, relationships in the school and how students are responding to the school. There were also questions asking parents for input.

“The input was extremely positive overall,” she said. The survey was sent to pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade parents.

IN OTHER action the board:
