The Lyon County Fair will be held August 9-13 in Marshall.

Rolle Bolle tourney precedes big weekend

The annual Rolle Bolle Tournament and Supper sponsored by the St. Eloi Court 1081 and the Minnesota State COF, will be this Sunday and will be a short of “beginning” of Rolle Bolle coming up. The annual event includes registration from 5-5:30 p.m. at the Ghent American Legion Hall and Bolling Alleys.

Bolling begins at 6 p.m. A supper will be served at 5 p.m. on Sunday with a free will offering.

The events funds activities of the St. Eloi Church. The following weekend, August 4, 5 and 6 the Rolle Bolle will begin in earnest at the annual Ghent Belgian American Days. Rolle Bolle participants will come from all over the nation and even some Internationally, to compete in the Rolle Bolle Tournament.

Sign up begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and begins with the A&B Division Format at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Novice Tournament is at 1 p.m. The finals in the evening will be held at 6 p.m. Rolle Bolle is the mainstay of the three-day event that includes the Belgian American Days Royalty Coronation on stage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday followed by DJ entertainment on stage at 9 p.m. along with the “Movie in the Park” for Kids at Legion Park.

Saturday’s events include the “Challenge of the Lion”, Mud Run that begins at 10 a.m.

The annual Cruisers Car Show is at 11 a.m. with both Belgian and American National Anthems played and a food stand open.

The grand parade is at 4:30 p.m. with the street dance at 9 p.m. Softball will be held all weekend and concludes on Sunday.

County Fair coming up

The following weekend is the Lyon County Fair in Marshall. Under the theme, “Dare To Fair,” the event will be held August 9-13. The Merriam’s Midway Shows will be back for the third straight year. Most everything at the Lyon County Fair is free, but of course a few things aren’t. All ticket information for the 2017 Fair will be published as the information becomes available.

County 4-Hers will be showing their animals again this year. Free attractions include the “Never Forget Exhibit” from the firefighters of New York; Silly Miss Tilly; Milking Cow; Ralco Enrichment Center; BMX Stunt Bike Show and the pedal pull.

The 20th annual PRCA Rodeo will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday evenings. The demolition derby will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 12. And, attractions under the hoop barn include Kayla Daniels; Hicktown Mafia; Roxbury Band and Escaudrom Musical.

The 4-H events will include horse shows, livestock and other special shows during the run of the fair.

The 4-H Livestock Ribbon Auction will be held at noon on Sunday.
