Recycle your old Christmas lights

Recycle Your Holiday Lights and Cords with Canby Developmental Achievement Center (DAC). The holiday season is officially upon us.

For many of us that means decorating the house, porch, shrubs and trees with holiday lights. When your old lights do not turn on, there is a solution.

Santa’s environmentally friendly helpers at the Canby DAC announce their annual kick off of their program to recycle Christmas lights.

Partnering with them for a convenient drop off site is Gislason Ace Hardware. The Canby DAC will collect the lights the individuals we serve will separate the bulbs from the wires for environmentally safe recycling.

The Canby DAC recycles every part of the light strings.

“We want to encourage more Minnesotans to make the change to energy efficient LED light strands.”

“So let’s all work to get the word out to friends and family, co-workers and others to recycle those lights,” said officials of the Canby DAC.

This is a win-win-win program. Valuable recyclables are kept out of the landfill and the program empowers our individuals with disabilities with meaningful employment opportunities at the Canby DAC.

This program runs until January 31, 2018, but the Canby DAC collects lights and cords year round. When you use LED holiday lights on your Christmas tree you can save up to 90 percent on energy costs.

“We recycle all cords, including appliance, computer, cell phone charger, telephone, extension, etc.”

“So check around your homes, garages, barns, outbuildings, and businesses!”
