Public meeting concerns offender’s transition to area

The public will get a chance to gather information regarding the “transition” of Level 3 predatory offender James Dahlager, 36, into the Marshall community.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, February 1, with the Marshall Police Department, in conjunction with the MN Department of Corrections at the Marshall Middle School theater, 401 S. Saratoga St.

According to a Minnesota Statute, the Marshall Police Department is releasing information regarding Dahlager, who will be moving to Marshall, as of February 2, 2018.

“This individual has served a sentence imposed on him by the court, and is transitioning into the community. He will be under intense supervision by Dept. of Corrections agents, as well as local police, and will be under GPS monitoring. He will also be under a number of other restrictions,” said Police Sgt. Tim Tomasek.

This meeting is not intended to increase fear in the community, but to raise awareness.

“Law Enforcement believes that an informed public is a safer public. Abuse of this information to threaten, harass, or intimidate a registered offender is unacceptable and such acts could be charged as a crime.

Such abuses could potentially end the ability of law enforcement to conduct these informational meetings,” indicated Tomasek.
