New vehicle offered to golfers by Wrestling Association

If you happen to feel lucky on June 17, you might want to walk to the Countryside Golf Club because you just might be driving home in a new vehicle.

The Minneota Wrestling Association is sponsoring a Friends, Family and Alumni of Minneota Wrestling Best-Ball Golf Outing in which one lucky participant could win a new car by sinking a hole-in-one. The golf outing is a celebration of 50 years of Minneota wrestling.

“This is the first year we are having the tournament and are trying to get as many past wrestlers, as well as anyone who has supported the program for the past 50 years,” said Tony Esping of the Wrestling Association. Countryside Auto is providing the new vehicle that was obtained via an insurance policy by the Wrestling Association. The hole-in-one contest will be held on the par-3, No. 6 hole.

“As far as the hole-in-one, we are still working out the details of the specific car,” said Esping.

“But the car can have a value of up to $30,000.” The best-ball format tournament is being set up as four-player teams and is open to anyone.

Teams can consist of men, women or co-ed. Registration will be between 10-10:30 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 11 a.m.

“So far we have approximately 10 teams,” said Esping. “And we can have as many sign up as possible. There will be no turning people away.” “There can be four players per team and if people don't have a team, we encourage them to sign up and we will pair them with teams that may need a golfer.”

Entry fee is $25 per person which includes green fees, use of a cart, and dinner in the clubhouse. “We plan to have contests throughout the course for prizes,” said Esping.

“They will be associated with some sort of wrestling theme.” The Wrestling Association is currently busy trying to obtain sponsors for each hole, as well as encouraging past wrestlers, coaches and fans to celebrate the half-century of Minneota wrestling.

“The idea of the golf tournament is to bring together several generations of Minneota wrestling supporters and family for a day of fun and memories,” Esping concluded.
