Minneota Principal Jeremy Frie leaving

Accepts job as new superintendent at Dover-Eyota High School

Jeremy Frie, who has been the principal at Minneota since 2013, recently accepted the position of superintendent at Dover-Eyota High School, according to sources.
The Dover-Eyota School Board had narrowed their choice to three people for a final round of interviews before voting. The board then unanimously approved to offer the position to Frie.
"I liked the fact that (Frie) talked about being a servant leader and being here for the community," Dover-Eyota assistant middle and high school principal, who helped with the selection process, told the Rochester Post Bulletin.
Frie is also currently the community education director at Minneota. This is his 21st year in education, including nine as an administrator. He will officially take over duties at Dover-Eyota on July 1.
"I saw the position in Dover-Eyota posted and went for it," Frie said. "It was the only one I applied/interviewed for this spring. Our long-term goal was to be in a small town near Rochester somewhere, we just didn't know when or where."
Frie's wife, Courtney, is currently the Lakeview Elementary Principal following this school year. They have three children; Abby, a senior; Sam, a freshman; and Anndi, a fifth-grader.
"Courtney will resign when my contract is approved," said Jeremy. "She's begun looking for jobs in the Rochester area. We will have our house for sale very soon and have begun looking for home in the Dover-Eyota school district."
Abby signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball this fall for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 85 miles from the Dover-Eyota area.
"Where Abby goes to college wasn't the driving force, but it's certainly icing on the cake," Frie said.
Dover-Eyota is a consolidated school district located in Olmstead County, 11 miles east of Rochester in southeastern Minnesota.
Frie graduated in 1996 from Byron High School, 24 miles from the Dover-Eyota High School, before pursuing his career in education.
The Dover-Eyota board members were impressed with Frie's willingness to go beyond his duties.
"I've served lunch. I've run a study hall for a semester. I keep asking our head custodian if I can drive that squeegee machine," the Post Bulletin said he told board members. "We lost our custodial staff with COVID and close contacts, and we wanted to keep our building open. I wasn't above sweeping floors."
Frie, who said he will miss the staff and students at MPS, isn't nervous at all about becoming a superintendent.
"I'm as prepared as I can be," he said. "Mr. Deitte prepared me well. It's exciting to leave the comfort zone to challenge yourself."
