Lyon County Shop Hop to aid local businesses

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Lyon County, Visit Marshall has partnered with Lyon County and Lyon County Historical Society for the first annual Shop Hop from Monday, Aug. 10 to Monday, Aug. 17.

"We are also getting help with promoting the event through the businesses who are all involved and the Marshall Downtown Business Association," said Julia Stuckey, Marketing & Events Coordinator for Visit Marshall. "We are putting it on to celebrate the 150th anniversary, as we feel this event still honors social distancing and encourages people to shop and support local."

The purpose of the Shop Hop is to promote several businesses around the county, including Marshall, Minneota, Tracy, Cottonwood and Green Valley.

Those wishing to participate should pick up a passport at any of the business listed in this article. Shoppers then get their passport stamped as they patronize and purchase items from the 25 participating businesses that are listed in the passport.

"Participants will need to stop at eight of these places in at least two different towns to be able to turn in their passports to be entered for a prize," Stuckey explained. "We are strongly encouraging shopping at each of the eight stops to support local businesses."

Prizes were donated by participating businesses. The prizes include such items as gift cards, candles, Lyon County history and photo books, t-shirts, a chocolate fondue set and more.

"We will be doing a drawing for the winners once the event is complete and will announce the winners on the Visit Marshall social media pages on Wednesday, August 19," said Stucky.

Coordinators of the event are also including 15 significant historical locations around Lyon County to encourage the participants to explore these sites in order to learn more about local history within the county.

The historical places are also listed in the passport. Participants can get additional prize entries by posting photos of the historic sites in the Facebook event.
