We have spent the month of May preparing for the Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program and learned some things along the way.
First, we realized that there are so many things to do – swimming, sports, camp, vacations with family – we need to have more time for reading. So, the summer reading program has been extended to include the month of August.
Second, we have had some wonderful prizes donated, including books and puzzles, and two whopper grand prizes: A kick scooter and a Kindle Fire. Come to the library to see the many rewards we have for reading and reaching your goal of 40 Hours. The Grand Prize drawing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
Third, we like coming up with creative things for you to do as you approach your summer of reading. We have made Activity Challenges for kids, teens and adults. Come to the library and pick up directions for a challenge, then log minutes and add your name to the drawing.
We have reading logs available for readers to write down their hours and minutes of reading. Story Hour this summer is every Wednesday in June and July from 6:30 to 7:15. Often, a craft will be involved. Story hour is geared for younger children, but all ages are welcome.
Our first story hour will be held Wednesday, June 2, and feature Mary Buysse, former Minneota Librarian, as our guest reader. Here is a list of our guest readers for the rest of the summer: June 9 – Brittany Moorse, celebrating Dairy Month; June 16 – Casey Meagher, Minnesota State Patrol; June 23 – Ruth Bot, Minneota School librarian; June 30 – Loralee Miller, Minneota resident and artist; July 7 – Bill Bolt, Minneota Chief of Police; July 14 – Jan Bot, St. Ed’s School librarian; July 21 & 28 – 2020 Boxelder Bug Days Queen and Princesses.
Don’t forget the Stuffed Animal Sleepover this coming weekend, June 5-8. Drop off your stuffed animal by noon on Saturday, June 5. Happy Reading, everyone.
