Get ready to load your trunks with treats

Annual event takes place Oct. 30 at St. Edward's School parking lot

Trunk or Treat, which has turned into a very popular event in Minneota, is returning again this year.
The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the parking lot on the north side of St. Edward School.
"We plan to have the same set-up the years past," said Nikki Traen, one of the event coordinators. "We will start trunk decorating at 10 a.m. and passing out treats from 10:30 to 12 p.m."
Pre-register your vehicle by Oct. 25 by calling or texting Traen at 507-828-2912.
Last year, there were around 15-20 vehicles with decorated trunks or the back ends of an SUV. Those participating should bring plenty of treats to pass out as there were over 200 costumed children visiting the lot last year. Treats should pre-packaged and store bought.
The event is sponsored by the St. Edward's P.E.A.C.E. Committee.
Trunk or Treat is a Halloween event that is often sponsored by churches or communities and held during the daytime hours. People gather in one location and park their vehicles in a large parking lot. They open their trunks or backs of their vehicles, and decorate them in various themes such as Disney, pirates, spooky, games and more. Some extend the decorating to the outside of their vehicles.
Children meander from one vehicle to another to receive a treat.
The traditional Trick-or-Treating on Halloween was becoming a dying tradition due to parents' busy schedules and unsafe environments. Trunk or Treat has brought back the fun for kids to dress up and garner as many treats as they can.
