Filing period opens Tuesday, May 19, for federal, state and county offices

The filing period for federal, state and county offices opens Tuesday, May 19th, at 8 a.m. and will continue to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2nd.

The place of filing for federal offices is the Office of the Secretary of State in St. Paul. The place of filing for state offices is with the Office of the Secretary of State or with the county auditor of the county in which the candidate resides. The place of filing for Lyon County offices is the Auditor/Treasurer’s office on the second floor of the Government Center in Marshall.

Under normal circumstances candidates may file in person or by mail, as long as the filing is received during the filing period. The filing process may change due to the COVID-19 situation. Please contact the Auditor/Treasurer’s office or visit www.lyonco.org/elections for filing process updates.

In Lyon County, County Board of Commissioner seats in District 1, District 4, and District 5 are up for election in November. Those seats are currently filled by Charles Sanow, Gary Crowley, and Rick Anderson, respectively.

The filing period also includes Lyon County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor seats in districts 1, 3, 4 and 5. Those seats are currently filled by Gary Laleman, Mark Meulebroeck, John Lanoue, and Steve Prairie, respectively.

The filing period for cities, many schools, and various townships will be from July 28th through August 11th.
