FFA
OK, so FFA stands for “Future Farmers of America.”
But what does it really mean? Many of the younger kids in Minneota probably don’t have a clue.
That’s why the FFA kids go into the classroom each year to talk to the younger kids about farming, agriculture, cows and ice cream.
This past week, the Minneota FFA took a short trip to the St. Edward Catholic School to give the kids a taste of farming — or more specifically, a taste of ice cream.
They showed them how ice cream is made from dairy products produced on the farm. And they led the kids through games and fun.
Other trips to the classroom allow the FFA kids to talk about the farm, what happens there and what its like to “farm.”
For many kids, it’s their first up close look at farm animals, the equipment it takes to farm and the products that are produced there.
Under the direction of FFA Director Matt Buysse, the FFA held a Waffle Feed on Sunday.
This was, of-course, the fundraiser to help raise money for the places the FFA will travel this year.
They participate in competitions across the state, do judging and attend the National FFA Convention.
But this week was mostly to help others know how valuable agriculture is.
Most kids enjoyed the taste of that.
