Council to move burn site away from housing development

With the development of land on County Road 10 outside Minneota with hopes of a new housing development, the City of Minneota has made plans to move the burn site that’s right next door to the proposed development.

The council approved a bid from Troy Thompson of Minneota to move the burn site to land near the city lagoon. The bid was for $86,790. The council earlier indicated they would move the burn site to help promote the potential housing development.

IN OTHER action the council: •Heard Civil Defense Director Tim Champagne ask the city to purchase a new siren. A new one is usually bought every three years but this time Champagne asked a year early.

The sirens are constantly being updated. At this time, no action was taken. •Were asked by American Legion Commander Jim Fink to consider developing a maintenance budget for Veteran’s park. The need for plants, landscaping and replacement would fit into such a budget.

Fink asked for the city’s help in maintaining the park. No action was taken.

•Heard Minneota Activities Director/Outdoor Maintenance Director Jason Myhre say the school is considering taking over the Summer Recreation Program currently run by the city. No further information has been provided at this time.

•Noted a public hearing has been set by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 5:30 to 7 p.m. to inform the public about the impending Highway 68 project between Minneota and Marshall.

The work is planned for 2020.

•Approved switching to Minnesota Public Employment Insurance Program for employees’ health insurance.

•Approved a deed for warranty to Dean and Susan Gorecki for development of a home at 510 Federal Street. “We’ve sold the last home on Federal Street,” said Administrator Teigland.

The home is in the Wyffels-Novotny Addition. •Approved zoning permits for the Goerecki home and for removal of a building by James Hamerlinck at 102 S. Jefferson. •Approved a rental agreement for a Quonset hunt near the city hall from Swede Farms.
