Caught — wearing seat belts

On Tuesday, Minneota Police Chief Bill Bolt and Lyon County Deputy Sergeant Eric Wallen "Caught" 100 students wearing their seat belts.

As part of a public safety program, Chief Bolt and Sgt. Wallen stood at the entrance to the Minneota Public School parking lot and rewarded students who were wearing seat belts with a coupon for a free McDonald’s McCafe item. Wearing her seatbelt above was Brooklyn Downing.

“As I waved vehicles down, I could see the nervousness and wonder as to why I wanted to talk to them. As soon as they realized they were getting a free McCafe, their faces lit up with big smiles and appreciation. It’s a lot of fun to reward people for doing the right thing,” said Chief Bolt.
