Board debates water problem on county lake

Board debates water problem on county lake A debate between County Commissioners rose over paying for engineering expenses to determine how to solve a high water problem on Lake of the Hill in Custer Township.

“It’s another lake without a natural outlet and high water has affected a feedlot,” said Planning and Zoning Director John Biren.

Commissioner Rick Anderson pushed for the project because it’s needed, but Commission Chairman Gary Crowley said, “We need the landowners to have some ‘skin in the game,’ (or to become financially involved).”

Commissioner Anderson asked Biren if the landowners had, “Any skin in the game,” and Biren said, “I’m not that far along yet.” Commissioner Charlie Sanow said something had to be done and urged developing a plan, then talking about how it will be financed.

“We’re dealing with water,” said Commissioner Anderson. “Something has to be done.” He added, “We need to know the cost and the best options for it.”

Eventually the board approved $4,500 to Duane Hansel to engineer the project.
