Bids high on planned street project

The Jackson and Grant Street Project bids were opened up last week and they came in higher than expected.
The low bidder was Central Specialties, Inc. of Alexandria and the bid was $237,289 or about 20 percent higher than expected.
“DGR Engineering said they recommend one of three options: 1. To award the contract even though it is high and get the job done; 2. Award the contact but take out the concrete. Most of the concrete work is at Sixth and Grant; or 3. Reject the bids and rebid the project this spring,” said Riley Rinehart of DGR Engineering.
The council council has been planning repair and reconstruction on both Grant and Jackson Streets.
“There is a fourth option where you would not award or reject and push it forward to a special meeting,” said City Administrator Teigland. “You have 30 days to award or reject all bids,” said Rinehart.
“I think that’s what we should do,” said Mayor Rolbiecki. “I move we go for option four,” said Councilwoman Nancy Reisdorfer.
It will be delayed until a special meeting can be held. That special meeting will be held at 6 p.m.,  July 24 to consider the options and talk with capital financial planner Mike Bubany.
