ATV Park closer to reality
The establishment of a public ATV Park in Lyon County may soon be a reality.
On Tuesday, the Lyon County Board agreed to become the “fiscal agent” for a grant to establish the ATV park being built by the Southwest Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club.
“The county would act as the agency for the grant funds,” said County Administrator Loren Stomberg.
Commissioner Rick Anderson didn’t necessarily agree that the county had to be the agency to handle the grant funds. Commissioner Anderson asked Phil Nasby of the Department of Natural Resources if the club itself could be the agency to handle the funds.
Nasby indicated it was best for the county to be the fiscal agent for the grant funds.
“This makes it a lot cleaner if there’s no money coming from the county,” said Commissioner Gary Crowley.
“Doug Anderson of the ATV Club said the trail system has never cost the county money.”
He indicated the club would do all the paperwork but the county would be the lead agency.
“It’s up and running,” said Anderson, adding, “We pay our own way.”
“We will accept the responsibility and do all the paperwork,” Anderson indicated. “The snowmobile club is willing to take responsibility,” said Commissioner Anderson.
“I think we should be the fiscal host for the ATV Trails,” said the commissioner.
