Abandoned car leads to house fire

It took a little investigating, but eventually an abandoned car, then house fire, led to the arrest of 33-year-old Tyson Hinckley of Marshall. Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen told The Mascot his office began investigating a “suspicious vehicle” in Stanley Township, northeast of Marshall about 9:38 Friday, July 12.

At the time, the driver was not located. Lyon County called in the Minnesota DNR, State Patrol, Renville and Redwood County Sheriff’s Offices, Marshall and Cottonwood Fire Departments and North Ambulance.

About 1:49 p.m., a fire in an attached garage not far from the abandoned vehicle at 3294 310th Street was discovered.

They found Hinckley, who was arrested on charges of arson, burglary and auto theft.

Wallen indicated the theft and abandonment of the car and the fire were related. Hinckley appeared in Lyon County Court on Monday, where bail was set.

He was still incarcerated in the jail on Monday afternoon. Investigations are continuing.
