Minnesotans Call for Proactive Solutions to Domestic Violence

WoMen’s Rural Advocacy Programs, Inc. (WRAP) “This is the fourth year WRAP has hosted an event such as this. We are excited to be part of this statewide effort to bring awareness of the successes and struggles we witness as we walk alongside of victims of domestic violence. This work is hard and we need the communities support as we work together to create a violence free Minnesota.” said Becci ten Bensel, WRAP Executive Director.

WoMen’s Rural Advocacy Programs, Inc. (WRAP) will host a rally on Tuesday, February 25th from 445-6:30pm at the Marshall-Lyon County Library. Event attendees called on elected officials at the Capitol to support survivors and domestic violence services.

Advocates asked elected officials to invest in domestic abuse transformation programming, housing, public transportation, and programs that serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence. “When decision-makers invest in housing, transportation, and domestic abuse transformation programming, they are investing in safety and survivors,” said Liz Richards, executive director of Violence Free Minnesota. “We are excited to join the leaders from Marshall and surrounding communities so that together we can create a safer Minnesota.”

Speakers at WRAP’s rally will include Angela Larson, United Community Action Partnership, Family Service Director, Denise Prellwitz, Project Turnabout Business Intake Coordinator, Tony Rollings, Lyon County Sheriff’s Department and Abby Wikelius, Assistant Lyon County Attorney.

The rally in Marshall is part of a 7-week series of advocacy days traveling to seven regions of the state. Violence Free MN Southwest Regional Partners include Committee Against Domestic Abuse, Southwest Crisis Center, New Horizons Crisis Center, and WoMen's Rural Advocacy Programs, Inc. The rally hosted by WRAP is open to the public and questions should be directed to call the Marshall WRAP office at 507-532-9532.
